Mr. Howerton is in his sixth year as principal of Hartland Lakes Elementary School. Prior to that time, he was the assistant principal at Hartland Middle School at Ore Creek for seven years and before that taught for one year at Hartland High School, in addition to teaching middle school fifteen years at Ionia Middle School (west side of Michigan). Mr. Howerton holds two degrees: a bachelor's degree in education from Michigan State University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University. He also holds a teaching certificate as well as an administrative certificate, both issued through the State of Michigan.
Our Lakes principal has been married to his wife Deana for 12 years and has one son, Kalin, who is eleven and currently in sixth grade at Farms. Mr. Howerton enjoys reading, sports, music, but most of all spending time with family and friends.
It is important to Mr. Howerton that our Lakes Family, consisting of staff, students and parents, consistently work together as a team in order to provide the best education possible for our students in a safe and caring environment. Staff and students are continually learning and growing; teachers working hard to improve and enhance their skills as educators, and students learning to grow and develop academically, socially and emotionally. We believe in ALL of our students at Lakes!
