2nd Annual Hartland Strong for Mott Fundraiser!

Mr. Conway has been sending out several e-mails with all of the details on our Mott Fundraiser this spring.  Below is a brief summary of what we have going on to raise funds again for Mott!
  • Wednesday, April 24--Mott Obstacle Course during essentials time (Kids wear capes)
  • Monday, April 29--Children with Hair Loss Donation Event in Lakes Gym (4-5:30)
  • Thursday, May 2--Superhero Assembly at the end of the day (Kids wear capes)
There are three ways to raise donations:
1.  Cash/Check donations:
  • Please make checks payable to Regents of the University of Michigan and note “Hartland Strong for Mott” in the memo field.
2.  Online
  • If you click Join: you can make your own personal page to email out to friends and family OR they can donate to the to the general C.S. Mott team or myself.
  • When you click on "The team" (under the Hartland Strong for Mott logo) after registering your child's page will show up there.
  • Click on your child's page, copy the link and email that out.
  • Your child will get credit for donations even if the DO NOT create a page because when a donor completes their form, they will ask "What student are you donating under" and they have to fill your child's name in to complete the donation.
  • If you prefer for any reason to not have your child's name entered, just use Mr. Conway as the student name
3.  TEXT:
  • Simply text LAKES2019 to 41-411.   It will text back the link for donation
We are raising funds to help these four causes:
  • MR-I Can Do It Magnetic Resonance Imaging room featuring kid-friendly facades and murals.
  • Always Remembered Bereavement Giving Library
  • Pediatric Hematology-Oncology department
  • Meals for Mott, a long-standing Hartland community initiative to provide nourishing meals for patients and families on the 7th floor.

Social Emotional Program and Sensei Lessons

In our Lakes Character Development Program, "Eagles Take Flight", we have been building an intentional culture and identity.  We Are Lakes!  We Are Strong!  This Is Our Best Year Ever!
As we finish this school year you can help your child by reminding them in your words and actions to keep working hard and finish strong!  Most people learn to work hard most of the time or how to do just enough.  We are learning a different habit here at Lakes.  We are nurturing the habit of always doing a little more than anyone expects ALL THE TIME.
This comes with practice.  Just keep reminding your children success is just a CHOICE and a HABIT.
I've attached a reference sheet that has much of the language and training themes that we use with students at school to work on building our courage, discipline, and humility muscles with Sensei Larioza! (We have not gone over the last two themes yet)  Use this language at home with your child and ask them how they are applying these lessons at home and at school!

LES Student-run Credit Union is open every Thursday!

We're so excited about the second year with our student-run LOC Federal Credit Union at Lakes!  Thank you so much to Ms. Stephanie Cole from LOC who is running this wonderful program!  We have a wonderful new team of 4th graders who are working as team members at the credit union this year! You and/or your child can open an account at anytime.

Keep Reading!--EVERY month is Reading Month!

Our students read almost 4,500 hours during the month of March!  Our goal was 3,000 hours!  Our new goal for April is 3,500 hours as a building.  Principal Howerton shared a link to a Google form for parents to keep track of their child's reading in his April 10 News and Notes e-mail.
Attached below is a link to Cromaine Library and a link to the K-4 list of events is right below:

Thank you!  Mr. Howerton
